Iwan Smit
Iwan Smit is a Rotterdam-based artist known for his instantly recognizable style. Trained at the Willem de Kooning Academy, he started in illustration and visual arts before expanding into sculpture and light installations. His work, both bold and balanced, reflects a personal and honest approach.
Smit’s art is part of the Boijmans Van Beuningen Museum collection, and he is also known for projects like the Duvel glass design and a major light installation at Lowlands. In 2025, he began a new personal series focused on a central male figure. Between a Rock and a Hard Place and Untitled mark the beginning of this powerful and sensitive body of work, followed by Between a Rock and a Hard Place II and Take a Chance on Me.
